Recent research from Swedish, Norwegian, and now American scientists all seem to be advocating against a new smoking hazard called “third-hand smoke.”
I, on the other hand, am not buying it.
No, I’ve never smoked in my life, but I do run into quite a bit of smokers on my college campus. Since I find the habit repulsive, I make it a point to avoid areas where they are smoking, but according to this study that isn’t good enough.
Apparently, the gas and particles left behind from a smoker in a room is harmful to those who are in the same room even the next day. Though, as a resident of Atlanta, I can safely say that I’m more concerned about the nasty city air I breathe than this so-called hazard.
If all it takes to make the news anymore is a catchy new name for something “harmful” and a scientist, then what’s next? Sure, smelling a fart is nasty, but not lethal.
