Last night’s episode of Australian Idol won’t be remembered for the singing. It will go down in history as the night at that Toby Moulton quit the reality TV competition.
Only once in the history of Australian Idol has a finalist left the competition. Then illness was behind the decision. But here Toby has realized that his passion for teaching outweighs his desire for a musical career.
To take such a momentous step at this stage of the competition is incredible. Should he have stuck it out, Toby would have been in her top four. Instead he gave young James Johnston a reprieve.
His decision may have been a curve ball, but listening to his impassioned speech it made perfect sense. Those primary school students in Adelaide are lucky to have a teacher as dedicated as Mr. Moulton.
