With just days to go until Australia heads to the polls, the race to become Prime Minister is really heating up. We recently saw one of the more poignant moments of the campaign when a Vietnam War veteran faced Tony Abbott and asked him about the issue of gay marriage.
Gay marriage appears to be the final frontier of equality in Australia, and indeed many nations around the world. It’s one that’s dear to this vet’s heart, as he proudly has a gay son.
Of course, the notoriously conservative Mr Abbott will never come to the party on the issue. He uncomfortably bobbed and weaved as he delivered a response which never really answered the question.
It’s sad that both major parties say that gay marriage is not part of their policies, but wonderful that members of the public like this loving father insist that it is what the country needs.
