As this SEC basketball game is a few minutes into over time, a foul is called, and mid call, you can see groups of people making their way up the rows and out of the building as a tornado strikes the dome in downtown Atlanta.
Amazingly, the crowd remains calm, but this is some of the best live video footage of the tornadoes impact on the downtown area of Atlanta. With structures wavering near the roof, a piece of the wall is ripped off and debris begins to fly around the dome; then, the video footage goes to static.
They are able to get back on the air, and aren’t quite sure if it was a bad storm or they were in the path of the tornado, but they are all lucky bystanders as the dome was able to take the beating from the tornado pretty well.
Downtown has a lot of recovery from this, but once again, a sports dome, lacking windows and such, proves to be a safe harbor during a natural disaster such as this.
