Queensland is ordinarily described as Australia’s Sunshine State, but the region hasn’t seen a lot of that trademark summery weather lately. Much of the state, an area larger than Germany and France combined, is under water.
Last night Australians pulled together for a flood relief fundraiser. Ordinary Aussies, celebrities, and business pledged more than $10 million to help the cause, adding to the more than $20 million already collected.
This video, the introduction to that television fundraiser, shows you the extent of the devastation. To date at least a dozen human lives have been lost, and thousands of homes have been affected.
While Australians have been generous to help flood victims, the millions still aren’t enough to rebuild the thousands of lives touched by this tragedy.
