Comedy Central has named the person replacing Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show when the current host retires later this year.
His name is Trevor Noah, a South African comedian who has been on the show three times. Which means this appointment is something of a surprise.
I have actually seen Noah on several TV shows in the U.K., and he’s a confident performer who tells cutting jokes on a range of different subjects.
Whether this translates into a successful spell as host of The Daily Show remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a bold move by Comedy Central.
