Most disgruntled airline passengers must be satisfied with ranting at the flight staff or their superiors. But not Dave Carroll. When United Airlines broke his Taylor guitar, he didn’t get mad. He got even.
The result is the very clever, and super catchy, ditty “United Breaks Guitars.” It all came about when the negligent airline refused to replace the guitar they broke. Funnily enough, once this song hit YouTube, and news outlets around the world, they reconsidered this stance.
Clearly the damage has already been done though. This sort of bad press is a PR nightmare. It’s enough to make any musician, or anyone with anything of value, think carefully about boarding a United flight.
