I’ve been a Van Halen fan since before David Lee Roth originally left the band, and I was drooling when I heard that they had gotten back together and were coming to North Carolina. But after seeing this video of them totally butchering “Jump” in Greensboro, I feel slightly less bad about missing it.
There has been quite a bit of debate about what went wrong here. Some are saying that they used a recorded keyboard track that was played at the wrong pitch. Others say Eddie Van Halen’s guitar was tuned incorrectly, and others say it’s just a bad recording. But there’s no denying that it’s a horrible assault on the ears.
I’ve always enjoyed watching Dave’s onstage antics, and this video is no exception. But it’s better seen with the sound off.
