Whatever you think of Disney (the corporation) or Walt Disney (the man, the myth, the legend) you can’t deny the power and influence they have had on popular culture.
This video shows Disneyland, California as it was in 1956. It was shot just one year after the theme park opened, and its newness shows.
There are a couple of fascinating things in this video: Frontierland, complete with real-life native Americans dancing for people’s amusement, and Walt Disney himself wandering around the park.
It’s hard to fathom just how exciting Disneyland must have been back in 1956. We’re now used to the idea of massive theme parks, but back then this would have blown people’s minds.
