“Huge explosions have hit an industrial area in the north-eastern Chinese city of Tianjin, injuring more than 400 people, state media says.
“State broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) said the blasts erupted in a shipment of explosives at around 11:30pm local time, triggering a blast wave felt kilometres away.
“Shattered glass could be observed up to three kilometres from the blast site.
“At least 17 people were killed in the explosion, with more trapped by a huge fire unleashed by the explosives, Communist Party newspaper the People’s Daily said.
“The fire caused by the blast was under control, but two firefighters called to the scene were missing, according to local media.”
