“The US Supreme Court has again denied a last-minute appeal by attorneys for Alabama death row inmate Kenneth Smith, who is scheduled to be put to death Thursday by nitrogen gas – a wholly new method some experts have said is veiled in secrecy and could lead to excessive pain or even torture.
“It would also be the first known execution using nitrogen gas.”
