“Was Sparta a unique achievement or a prototype of future totalitarianism? …Historian Bettany Hughes explains Sparta’s culture, history, and downfall despite battle-hardened warriors, martially trained children, and powerful, liberated women…” – yougoogler
With what little I learned about Sparta growing up, they were the town to be feared for their military prowess and to be admired for the strict and organized way they ran their city – and their people.
Athens tends to get all the attention when we think of ancient history during these times, and it is interesting, but Sparta – I think – has the more interesting dynamics.
Crazy dynamics, but interesting.
