“It’s been a disastrous few weeks for Boris Johnson. In his efforts to pull the trigger on Brexit, the new prime minister has twice failed to push through snap elections to build a majority in favor of his plan—leaving him unable to govern and facing calls for his resignation.
“But he still seemed primed to pull out of the European Union by the end of October, with or without a deal, thanks to a power grab in which he suspended Parliament to keep the body from mucking up his timeline.
“Now, though, even that scheme appears to have failed.
“The U.K. Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down the prorogation, ruling unanimously that Johnson’s advice to Queen Elizabeth was “unlawful, void, and has no effect.””
