“Now on its sixth outing, Death in Paradise (BBC One) is a series that serves two principal purposes.
“First, to ensure as many jobbing British actors as possible get a paid sojourn in the sun each year.
“And second, to bring the blue sky warmth, idyllic white sand beaches and laid-back stress-free sensibility of the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie to cheer viewers’ chilly winter-bound hearts every January.
“As such, it’s hard to dislike Death in Paradise’s blend of relentlessly upbeat whimsy.
“Although it deals in murder, it does so in the bloodless, pain-free manner of an Agatha Christie novel.”
