In what can be considered a historic vote, the Senate voted to advance legislation that would overturn the military ban on openly gay troops known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
Now this is just a first step in getting the DADT ban repealed, but it is a big first step that a lot of people doubted would actually happen.
Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Joe Lieberman, who are considered to be leaders when it comes to this issue, strongly urged the Senate to pass this motion so they could get on with taking this unfair policy and putting it in the trash.
