“WE’RE used to seeing her in period dramas like The Danish Girl and The Light Between Oceans, but Alicia Vikander shows off a very different side in these first-look pictures from the upcoming Tomb Raider film.
“Vikander takes on the iconic role of action heroine Lara Croft some 14 years after Angelina Jolie’s two big screen outings in the role — the second of which was met with poor reviews and disappointing box office takings.
“Vanity Fair reports that this reboot of the series comes with a new backstory for Croft, and a new motivation for her quest.
“Swedish-born Vikander, 28, told Vanity Fair she was “excited” to take on the role, acknowledging it marked a change from the sorts of films she’s appeared in previously.”
