“French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been convicted of embezzlement and handed a five-year ban from public office.
“The sentence will bar Le Pen, 56, from running in the 2027 presidential race unless she successfully appeals beforehand.
“The judge also gave Le Pen a four-year prison sentence — with two years suspended and the rest to be served under home detention — and a 100,000 euro ($170,000) fine.”
