“Veteran actor and frequent host Alec Baldwin has debuted his new gig as a scowling, blustering Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live (SNL) to thundering praise.
“The late night NBC comedy show, kicking off its 42nd season, opened with an extended sketch featuring Baldwin as Mr Trump, the Republican nominee for US president.
“He faced off against a calculating, cunning and smug Hillary Clinton, with Emmy Award-winner Kate McKinnon reprising her turn as the Democratic nominee.
“Much of the routine was lifted from the opponents’ Monday debate — which more than 80 million people watched on TV, and millions more watched online — and included references to talk show host and Mr Trump nemesis Rosie O’Donnell, and vocal Mr Trump backer, Fox News’ Sean Hannity.”
