TVLand’s highest rated original show ‘High School Reunion’ is about to wrap up it’s first season. So far, the reality/documentary-style show Has proved to be a hit for those in their 40’s.

The series is a reunion of the 1987 class of J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas (a suburb of Dallas). What sets HSR apart from most reality shows, is the class’s 20 year history that any late 80’s graduate can relate to. Which is why each episode has averaged 750,000 viewers for season 1.
As Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land states, “TV Land viewers can’t get enough of ‘High School Reunion.” It’s no surprise that it is returning for a second season in the first quarter of 2009.
The Labels
For me though, there are too many clichés for this show to be believable. As expected, it is produced by Mike Fleiss (“The Bachelor”) and is set in Maui. I found it quite amusing how all 15 of the characters could be blatantly labeled, even after 20 years of changes:
- DeAnna: the popular girl
- Justin: the pipsqueak
- Kat: the lesbian
- Sean: the millionaire
- Cheryl: the outsider
- Jason: the bully
- Yvette: the girl next door
- Matt: the jock
- Heather: the heart-breaker
- Steve: the backstabber
- Kirstin: the spoiled girl
- Glenn: the geek
- Lana: the drama queen
- Mike: the rebel
- Rob: the stud
