With the largest prison population in the world – nearly a quarter of all incarcerated people on the planet – residing in the US, it’s strange that the entire system doesn’t get an overhaul.
Well, maybe not strange so much as silly. People just don’t want to put the time and money into fixing a broken system.
And that’s exactly what it is: broken. While there are other factors, the base of it is that the punishments don’t often fit the crime.
