“The Academy Awards can sometimes plod along to a fairly predictable script. But when Lady Gaga is involved, predictable is out of the equation.
“Taking to the stage in a flowing white gown, the pop princess – who at previous award ceremonies has performed as a blood-soaked monster and in a dress made of raw beef – sang a medley of songs from the 1959 musical The Sound of Music.
“Gaga ran through the title song, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, before embracing Julie Andrews, who starred in the 1965 film adaptation.
“The film won five Academy Awards including best picture and in today’s dollars remains the third-highest grossing film in US box office history.”
