“RINGO Starr and Paul McCartney have led tributes to British singer Joe Cocker who has died aged 70 after a long battle with lung cancer.
“Cocker — known for his gritty voice — shot to fame in 1968 with his Beatles cover WithA Little Help From My Friends.
“He performed the song at the famous Woodstock Festival in New York state a year later.
“The Sheffield-born singer was a long-time US resident, living with his wife Pam Baker in Colorado. He died at home on his ranch.
“His career spanned 40 years and included hits such Up Where We Belong, his duet with Jennifer Warnes which earned him a Grammy. He also received an OBE for his contribution to music in 2007.”
