“A Christmas Day siege on the Gold Coast has ended peacefully with a gunman giving himself up to police.
“Police said a unit complex on White Street at Southport was locked down about 2am after the man barricaded himself inside one of the apartments.
“The incident had begun about 11pm Christmas Eve, when a shot was fired near a property on Anne Street at Southport, about 2km away.
“Another gunshot was fired about 5am at the unit block, which was surrounded by Special Emergency Response Team officers and local police.
“Inspector Bruce Kuhn said the man surrendered just before 11am after extensive police negotiation.”
