“A US judge has overturned the murder conviction of Brendan Dassey, whose story was featured in the popular Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer, along with his uncle.
“In 2005 Dassey and his uncle Steven Avery were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach on their rural scrap car property.
“Dassey is due to be released in 90 days unless prosecutors submit an appeal.

“The judge’s order included strongly worded rebukes of the investigating police and of Leonard Kachinsky, the public defender appointed in 2006 to represent Dassey — a 16-year-old minor at the time.
“US Magistrate Judge William Duffin referred to Mr Kachinsky’s representation as misconduct that was “indefensible”.”
