“From the first image of Natalie Portman treading warily through a bleak, beautiful landscape that’s accompanied by a plaintive and vaguely creepy score, Garland sets up a world that evokes inevitable comparisons to the tone and visual style of Denis Villeneuve’s brilliant sci-fi drama Arrival.
“The dreamy look and feel of the setting immediately draws the viewer in despite the foreboding sense that this will turn out to be a nightmare.”
