“In America, where it launched in 2017, it’s for Anglophiles who love British television or expats who are missing the best of ITV drama. Here, in the UK, there doesn’t seem to be much – if any – need for it.
“The new streaming service, created by the BBC and ITV, launched today with the announcement that Channel 4 will join its ranks in 2020, and thanks to the inclusion of Channel 5 programmes, it became the largest library of British television on the internet.
“Like all other sites – Amazon Prime Video, Hulu in the US, the newly launched Apple TV+ and the yet to launch Disney+ – BritBox is an attempt to quell Netflix’s dominance of streaming.”
