Patty Hearst first became famous at nineteen when the Hearst Publishing Company heiress was kidnapped by Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA). She later announced she had joined the SLA and participated in a bank robbery with them.
Ms. Hearst did spend time in jail for her part in the crime, but her lawyer got her a reduced sentence, claiming that she was a victim of brainwashing via sexual abuse.
Some people are more than happy to say that she should still be in jail while others feel nothing but sympathy for a woman who has been through a lot.
