Judge Vaughn R. Walker struck down Proposition 8 today – the bill that banned same sex marriage – calling it unconstitutional, much to the delight of many people.
Woohoo! I have a friend who had to cancel her wedding because of proposition 8, and now things are looking up for her again.
As far as I figure it, same sex marriage isn’t an issue. It only becomes an issue for people because of religious matters, but the fact is that marriage is a government recognized status.
Government and religion shouldn’t mix. If a church doesn’t want same-sex marriages happening under its roof, then don’t allow it there.
But don’t ban an entire section of the population from at least having the government recognized status.
And as for all the people who equate homosexuals getting married to people getting married to animals: stop the hate.
