“Following the discovery of a Boeing 777 wing piece on the Indian Ocean island last Wednesday French authorities have responded to a number of questionable debris reportings.
“On Sunday morning world headlines lit up that a “plane door” had been found on a rocky beach at Saint-Denis, Reunion’s capital, only 25 kilometres from where the wing wreckage was found by a local beachcomber.
“Reporters swooped on the beach site after local police were photographed removing the item in a small box.
“Chinese social media was rife with speculation that the photographed debris – a mangled metal object with a brown handle etched with two Chinese characters – could well be a kitchen stove kettle.”
