The latest debate in parenting techniques has been set off by the ‘Tiger Mom’ Amy Chua, who compares what she views as the better parenting techniques in the East.
I watched this and tried to think about how I could class my mother’s parenting technique… What animal mostly doesn’t care either way about her young? Haha.
While I don’t think that extreme ‘tiger parenting’ is a good thing, I do find myself attracted to the basics of the style. I wish I had been pushed to achieve more and encouraged in my childhood. But that’s all said and done.
I find it interesting that the most disturbing thing for the Asian community was the reinforcement of stereotypes rather than the parenting style itself.
