Water fluoridation is the act of adding fluoride to the public water supply. This is done in an effort to reduce tooth decay. However, as with most things, the positives are countered by some huge negatives.
This video sees a dentist who once supported water fluoridation give his professional perspective on the issue now. The problems with adding fluoride to tap water are many and varied, as Dr. Bill Osmunson discusses.
The first issue is that children shouldn’t be given fluoride, at all, so putting it in the public water supply isn’t the best idea. This can also lead to dental fluorosis, which sees kids teeth damaged during development.
With these issues in mind, what about the benefits? Evidence suggests that tooth decay is on the decrease in all countries, and all states across America, regardless of whether water fluoridation is happening or not. So really, what’s the point?
