With just seven contestants remaining, the competition on Australian Idol is getting fierce. The talent quest hopefuls really have to do something special to get noticed. So it was refreshing on Motown week to see Wes Carr step out of the box.
He cleverly chose “If I Were a Carpenter.” Yes, the Four Tops recorded it, but Wes’ interpretation was much closer to Robert Plant’s or Luka Bloom’s.
It might not have had the brand of soul the Four Tops brought to this song, but boy it had heart. The stripped back arrangement allowed Wes to really tell a story, almost as if he wrote the song himself.
Wes Carr is Mr Consistency, delivering solid performances week after week. I can’t wait to see what he delivers next!
