Today is December 21st, which in the Northern Hemisphere means it’s the Winter Solstice. But what is the Winter Solstice? And why should you care?
As this video explains, the Winter Solstice is the shortest day, because the Earth is tilted away from the sun. So expect it to get dark early tonight.
This is also traditionally considered the start of winter, although our mad weather means this feels a little unscientific these days.
Either way, the Winter Solstice is the original celebration for this time of year, with Pagans gathering to celebrate it. Christmas came along a lot later.
