Drew Barrymore has been an actress for, well, as long as I can remember, appearing in E.T. at the age of seven. But she’s now gone behind the camera to direct for the first time. The result is Whip It.
Barrymore does also appear in Whip It but the main role goes to Ellen Page, best known for Juno. The supporting cast includes Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Jimmy Fallon, and Daniel Stern.
Whip It is a coming-of-age tale which shows how Page’s character of Bliss Cavendar struggles to fit in anywhere in her small town. That is until she discovers a roller derby and a team of girls who are kooky like her.
The movie is 111 mins long, and they squeeze 75 songs into that time. Which makes you wonder how there’s any room left for dialog. The trailer makes Whip It looks worth watching and I’ll definitely be going to see it.
