I think we can all agree Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a fantastic book. But is it really a simple story aimed at children? Or is it actually a retelling of Dante’s Inferno?
This video reveals compelling evidence for the latter, explaining how the storyline of both epic tales matches up pretty closely.
I must admit I’m now convinced, and think Roald Dahl was retelling Dante’s Inferno with characters and a setting that would be more agreeable to the general public.
I now need to watch the film — the original, not the terrible remake — again with this in mind. Either way, that Roald Dahl fellow was, to put it mildly, a clever chap.
