The Sundance Film Festival always unearths a few cinematic gems. Win Win looks like it might be one of those jewels.
The inspiring flick wowed festival goers, and looks set to charm the rest of us. At their worst stories like this can become saccharine and clichéd. But with the right script, direction, and performances, they can really tug at the heartstrings.
Paul Giamatti’s turn as the lawyer and volunteer high school wrestling coach who takes us an interest in a troubled teen might just help this film fall into the latter category.
It’s also penned and directed by Thomas McCarthy, who was behind the acclaimed films The Station Agent and The Visitor.
There’s no release date as yet, but if the Sundance reception is any indication it won’t be long before this one hits screens.
