Emily Bronte’s classic novel Wuthering Heights has received a new makeover thanks to Academy Award winning director Andrea Arnold. The woman who brought us Fish Tank and Red Road has taken a few risks with this new literary film adaptation.
For starters, we’ve got a black Heathcliff in the form of James Howson. He’s paired with Skins‘ star Kaya Scoderlario’s Cathy. The film’s been stripped of its period stuffiness and given a healthy dose of sex and nudity.
The modern re-imagining might be what it takes to get young things in the cinema, but something tells me it will put out the purists.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival recently, and will hit British screens in November. Expect other international release dates to follow.
