I watch the Zero Punctuation video reviews by Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw every week, and every single time, I end up experiencing two things – a feeling of hilarity, and a worry that the people who don’t “get” Croshaw will be mortally offended.
This week sees Croshaw review 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, a game which sounds terrible but actually looks half-decent. The problem is that 50 Cent has been crowbarred into the game for no other reason than he’s 50 Cent!
As a big fan of first-person shooters, I would probably have bought this game except for two reasons: 50 Cent is the star, and he’s a douchebag, the plot line looks about as realistic as the idea that I’m a decent writer. No one believes it.
Crowshaw sails very close to the wind with this review, first defending his position as not being racist but then closing by almost uttering ‘the N word’ and calling black people lazy. He’s kidding, it’s satire, but I wonder how many people won’t understand that.
