Deer crossing the road are a major hazard when you’re in an automobile, and an even bigger one when you’re on a motorcycle. This video, said to be from the 2007 Sturgis bike rally, shows a frightening near miss. But it’s not the biker whose quick thinking saves the day, it’s the deer.
I’ve had innumerable close calls with animals in the rural area where I live. I am pretty experienced at avoiding deer. But I have never seen anything like this. The deer in this clip is nearly hit by a biker on one side of the road, and jumps over another biker on the other side.
I hope the next deer I run across on the road is as considerate as this one. I think they owe me for all of the times I’ve nearly wrecked trying to miss them.
