Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Another day, another supposedly offensive comment gets someone famous in trouble. This time it’s Brett Ratner and his use of the word “fags.”
Ratner was talking to the crowd at a screening of his new movie Tower Heist when he said, “Rehearsing is for fags.” Oh no, he said the F word. No, not that F word, the other one. Let’s stone him.
This quote has been blown out of all proportion as some kind of anti-gay slur. It isn’t. Really. It’s not a nice word but it’s moved on from meaning ‘gay people’ to a more general ‘idiots’.
To be honest Ratner has always come across as a bit of a douche. He seems like one of those Hollywood types who feels he’s untouchable because of his wealth and status. But I could be doing him a huge disservice.
Either way I think on this occasion he doesn’t deserve the roasting he’s getting. Lighten up.
