For those of you that don’t know, MTV’s trademark music video countdown show (Total Request Live) is officially ending hours from now. Growing up as a part of the “MTV Generation,” I have to admit I’m going to miss TRL when it’s final episode airs today at 8 PM.
Not for the usually-awful music, but for these crazy moments.
I can’t think of any other live show on television to maintain it’s ratings by showing both sumo wrestling and an actual marriage (by MC Hammer?!) to a teen audience. Nevertheless, the show’s old formula seems to have run it’s course. Music videos are now a thing of the internet.
Of course, the best moment has to be the clip at the end where Stevie Wonder makes an improvisational song about TRL. What can I say, the man’s a genius.
