This video takes us through the history of National Donut Day. We learn that it began in 1938 as a tribute to the lassies who served soldiers in the trenches during World War I.

National Donut Day is therefore a way of raising money for The Salvation Army and to raise its profile. It began in Chicago but is now celebrated across the United States.

The thing about donuts, or doughnuts as they’re (properly) named, is how tasty they are despite being really, really bad for you. They contain little nutritional value but boy, are they good.
