The Ashes is a cricket tournament played bi-annually between England and Australia. It began in 1882 and The Ashes are actually the ashes left after the stumps and bails from that first series was burned. The winner of the series now wins them in an urn.
The Ashes has just come to an end in England and the home side won it in the final test, taking the series by two games to one. This video shows the final few hours of the conclusive final test match.
I’ve got a few Australian friends online who will be bitterly disappointed at losing The Ashes. This is a sport that Aussies are passionate about and a series which probably means the most to them because it gives them a chance to beat the poms at their own game.
Unfortunately for them it was not to be this time, with England repeating their victory from 2005. Australia won the last Ashes test series 5-0 in Australia in 2006/2007. But the urn is now back where it belongs.
