Kris Allen was crowned the winner of American Idol 2009 last night, beating the long-time favorite Adam Lambert in the process. How did the outsider do it? Has the fact that Lambert is openly gay got anything to do with the final result?
I’ve been watching videos of American Idol on the Web all season and I truly thought only one person was going to win the competition. Don’t get me wrong, all of the final 13 were talented in their own way but Adam Lambert stood head and shoulders above all the rest.
However, he didn’t win, despite many people believing he had the title in the bag after delivering top-notch performances week after week. Instead, the unassuming Kris Allen snatched victory at the last minute.
Many people are wondering if homophobia played a part in the result because Lambert is openly gay. If so then the American people should be ashamed of themselves. It’s 2009 people, we don’t live in the Dark Ages anymore.
