Lesley Gore, who was an insanely talented and popular singer in the 1960s, has died at the age of 68. She died in Manhattan after losing her battle with lung cancer.
This video shows her performing It’s My Party in 1995, which was a big hit when she was just 17 years of age.
Gore’s teenage songs have become feminist anthems, with their tendency to focus on girls handling relationship problems in their own way.
Ironically given the nature of these early songs, Gore was actually gay, coming out in 2005. She is survived by Lois Sasson, her partner for 33 years, as well as her mother and brother.
