Drummers will probably already know this by now, but the rest of the population probably don’t. It turns out that the surroundings in which you play drums really affects how the drums sound once they reach your ear.
This video shows a guy demonstrating the effect by playing his drums in different settings around the city. He turns the resulting cacophony into a song, using nothing but the environments in which he’s sat.
Playing in the garage full of cars produces a particularly harsh noise, with the sound reverberating off of the metal.
