This video shows The Young Turks reporting on the ruling that Prop 8 has been ruled unconstitutional. This guy, Cenk Uygur, talks a lot of sense on the subject.
According to the panel of three judges, Prop 8 “violated the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment,” as it “serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.”
What’s flabbergasting is that this is far from over. You’d think that once something had been ruled as unconstitutional that would be that. After all, the constitution is revered absolutely in the U.S. But no.
There will still likely be an appeal to this ruling, and until all due process is followed through this will not come into effect. So gay couples in California will have to wait a little longer before getting wed. Shameful.
