‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ Music Video | Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole Performance

I realize I’m probably a little late on the phenomenon that is Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole and his version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, but late is surely better than never. Isn’t it?

Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole was a Hawaiian musician and singer who was well known and well loved in his native country for being in the Makaha Sons of Niʻihau group before going solo.

He found international fame after his untimely death at the tender age of just 38 thanks to his cover versions of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World.

I have a new-found appreciation for the ukulele as an instrument, and this song uses it in the way it’s meant to be used. Kamakawiwoʻole had a strong enough voice to accompany the ukulele, but many people don’t.

I now can’t stop listening to this track.
