September 8th marks the 46th anniversary of Star Trek arriving on our screens. It was on that date in 1966 that the first episode aired, and countless other series and movies followed.

To mark the occasion, Google did what it does best – other than proffer a range of awesome services – and created a Google Doodle in honor of Star Trek: The Original Series.

The Google Doodle for Star Trek: The Original Series shows the letters of GOOGLE as characters from the show. Kirk, Spock, and Uhuru are all there, as is a red shirt, who gets visibly upset at the prospect of transporting to the planet’s surface.

On the surface you encounter a strange creature and get to choose the weapon with which to defend yourself with. Kirk saves the day and the red shirt lives to see the inside of the Enterprise once more.
