The reports that Eddie Murphy had passed away seem to have originated from Global Associated News, a website that posts humorless news reports in a similar vein to The Onion.
The problem is that while everybody knows The Onion is satire, no one has ever heard of this website. So people took the story seriously and started posting it on Facebook and Twitter. Despite the fact it’s 100% made-up BS.
